Southern-Style Homemade Cornbread
Servings: 8–10
Ingredients:
* 1 cup yellow cornmeal
* 1 cup all-purpose flour
* ¼ cup granulated sugar
* 1 tbsp baking powder
* ½ tsp baking soda
* ½ tsp salt
* 1 cup buttermilk
* 2 large eggs
* ½ cup melted butter
* 2 tbsp honey
* 1 tbsp butter, for the skillet
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Place a cast-iron skillet in the oven while it heats.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and honey.
4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined. Don’t overmix.
5. Carefully remove the hot skillet and melt 1 tbsp butter inside.
6. Pour the batter into the skillet and spread evenly.
7. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
8. Let cool for 5–10 minutes, then slice and serve warm with butter or honey. 🌽🧈🍯
